GRADUATE CREDITS

Five Graduate Credits are available through the World Learning SIT TESOL Certificate

How do I get Graduate Credit?
You will have a choice of whether or not to pursue graduate credit, but will have to decide before the course begins. Regulations state that once the course has begun there is no reconsideration on the part of the World Learning SIT Graduate Institute Registrar's Office.  If you wish to pursue graduate credit you will be given a link by the Training Center at which you have enrolled in the course, and will register for credit on an online World Learning SIT registration site. Choosing the credit option means that you will pay an additional $500 fee for credit directly to World Learning SIT, and upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded five graduate credits. Ordinary payment method is by check, but as a convenience, we offer the choice of credit card online payments by Master Card, Visa, or Discover with a flat convenience fee of $50 per transaction for payment of the registration fee. In submitting the graduate credit application you indicate that you have chosen to take the course for graduate credit, and that you understand that if you change your mind or fail to complete the course credit requirements the cost of credit will not be refunded. For more information please contact the Training Center at which you plan to take the course. Please note:
The World Learning SIT TESOL Certificate is graded on a Pass/Fail basis. Credits earned from the World Learning SIT Graduate Institute are transferable only at the discretion of the receiving school.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
SIT course participants have the option of receiving 12 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

1. What is a Continuing Education Unit?

    The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized unit of measurement for participation in non-credit, continuing education programs. Established in 1970 by a national task force, the CEU was created to provide a standard unit of measure to quantify continuing adult education and training activities, and serve the diversity of providers, activities, and purposes in adult education. The CEU is analogous to the academic credit hour used to quantify educational effort toward a college degree, and is defined as "ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction." Some states refer to them as Professional Development Points (PDPs), which are the same.

2. Why CEUs?

    CEUs provide:

1.      Present or potential employers with an official record of quantified learning relevant for job maintenance, career advancement or job applications;

2.      Documentation to registration boards, certification boards, or professional organizations;

3.      Educational institutions with an official record of learning outside of academic credit bearing educational programs;

4.      Official documentation for organizations such as Teacher Qualification Services who determine placement on salary scale based on training experience;

5.      A further distinction between the SIT TESOL Certificate and other courses in that it is a course provided by an accredited institution authorized to grant CEUs, which should help with marketing yourself. An official transcript is available upon request from SIT, which records the number of CEUs earned

3. How will this work?

     Individual participants will have a choice as to whether or not they want CEUs, but will have to decide at the beginning of a course, as the option will not be available at the end. Regulations state that CEU recipients must be recorded within 10 days of the beginning of a course and once that time limit has passed there is no reconsideration on the part of the registrar's office. Participants who wish to receive the CEUs will have to pay an additional US$300 fee.
